Drocourt - A Gorge Striking Carriage Clock

A lovely quality Gorge cased French carriage clock with an eight-day duration movement, with the original platform lever escapement, which strikes the hours and half hours on a gong with a push repeat to the top, and is stamped with the serial number '23265'. The gilded Gorge style brass case is also stamped with the serial number to it's base. The white enamel dial has blued steel spade hands, black Roman hour numerals and Arabic five minute markings, with a silvered 'sight' ring to the outer edge. The stamps to the backplate, most noticeably the style of tight arrow for the hand setting direction and the style of lettering used for Hands, along with the dial layout, suggests that this clock was made in the workshops of the top Paris carriage clock maker Drocourt; the serial number would confirm this. Height: 5½ inches (13.3 cms) Please click on images to enlarge: Any additional images are shown below

Drocourt

I have been researching the clocks and lives of Pierre & Alfred Drocourt, and their families, for a number of years now and have unearthed information hitherto unknown which has greatly added to our knowledge of them, as well as debunking some previously held views and confirming others that were of uncertain origin. To read a summary of my work please go to the exhibition page and view the catalogue that was published to coincide with my 2014 Drocourt Exhibition of forty-plus clocks as well as revealing some of the previously unknown history of Drocourt. This research, along with that on the Jacot family, is still on-going and I would be most grateful to hear of any clocks by both Drocourt & Jacot to add to my database.

Price: £2,200.00

Ref: 1128
